Licensure Requirements

On-Campus, In-Person Programs

UNE has determined that it meets Maine’s licensure board educational requirements for the on-campus, in-person programs that prepare students to sit for licensure, which are listed immediately below. UNE has not made such a determination in any states or territories other than Maine. If you are considering obtaining state or other licensure outside of Maine, we encourage you to research the licensing requirements state or other jurisdiction where you intend to practice as these requirements vary from state to state and jurisdiction to jurisdiction. We also encourage you to discuss any questions you may have about this matter with your program's department chair/program director.

Distance Learning

UNE has determined that it meets the state licensing board’s educational requirements in the following states for the following programs that are taught online:

  • Master of Social Work: All U.S. states, District of Columbia and the territories of Puerto Rico,  Guam, American Samoa, United States Virgin Islands, and Northern Mariana Islands.
  • M.S. Applied Nutrition, Dietetics focus: All U.S. states, District of Columbia and the territories of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, United States Virgin Islands, and Northern Mariana Islands. 
  • Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study – Advanced Educational Leadership: Building Administrator certificate: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
  • Master of Science in Education – Educational Leadership: Building Administrator certificate: Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
  • Master of Science in Education – Reading Specialist: Literacy Specialist certificate: California, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and New Jersey.
  • Master of Science in Education – Special Education: Teacher of Students with Disabilities certificate: Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York.
