ADAPTIVE DANCE PROGRAM - Boston Ballet/Children? Hospital

12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
WCHP Lecture Hall, located in Proctor Hall behind Parker Pavillion
Michelina Cassella, PT & Gianni Di Marco

Free and open to the public

Founded by Michelina Cassella, a physical therapist, the Adaptive Dance classes through the Boston Ballet provide positive, creative and fun-filled experiences to children with Down syndrome.  These experiences enrich these children's lives with challenging movements, rhythmical music, deep friendships and a sense of personal accomplishment. Ms Cassella and Mr. Di Marco will share the mission of the program, its objectives and their personal experiences with the children and their families.

At the conclusion of this workshop, students will be able to:

1.    Observe how self-efficacy and social skill building for individuals with disabilities can be facilitated through the creative arts

2.    Heighten awareness about how the opportunity to share experiences creates supportive communities for parents of children with disabilities

3.    Develop awareness of the power of interprofessional activism and action
