Professor Ed Roberts began his career working at the Addenbrookes hospital site in Cambridge UK, working on peripheral and central nervous system diseases such as the areas of pain, anxiety and obesity research. He then joined AstraZeneca Research and Development in Montreal, as Director, where he formed a new research group in the field of pain control. He later moved to Basel, Switzerland and F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. As Senior Vice-President and Head of Discovery Chemistry Roberts was responsible for drug discovery chemistry done in all the therapeutic areas represented at the corporate headquarters, which included diseases of the central nervous system as well as the vascular and metabolic herapeutic areas.

Currently, Ed is Professor at The Scripps Research Institute in the department of Chemistry. His current research interests include treatments for Pain, Inflammation, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Epilepsy and Substance Abuse. Professor Roberts is pioneering novel methods in medicinal chemistry to achieve the goal of discovering new therapeutics.

Ed is founder/co-founder of Karyopharm Therapeutics, Receptos, Inc. and AlloBio companies working on Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, respectively.
