American Chestnut Tree Planting

The American chestnut tree, once plentiful across the eastern US, became nearly extinct  in the early 1900s due to an introduced blight.  People, wildlife and our economy have suffered as a result of this valuable tree’s decline.  Now, thanks to a few dedicated individuals, the tree is making a comeback.  Join us for a planting of American chestnut trees at the Peace Grove in an effort to restore this vital part of our ecosystem.  Do not miss this unique opportunity, as UNE will be home to one of only three blight resistant trees in the entire state of Maine!
