The Virginia Military Institute Brass
The VMI Regimental Band is proud to present the Institute Brass. This premier ensemble is chosen from Band Company, a unit of over 150 cadets representing all classes and major fields of study at the Virginia Military Institute. VMI is the United State’s first state military college founded in 1839 in Lexington, Virginia and alumni include such notables as General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson, General George Marshall, ‘01, General George Patton, ‘08, Admiral William Byrd, 1918, and Episcopal Saint Jonathan Daniels, ‘61. Formed in 1989 the Institute Brass performs over 30 concerts, convocations and ceremonies annually and has traveled extensively throughout the Eastern United States and Europe. The cadets major in every major field of study except music and are prepared for commissions as citizen soldiers upon graduation.
