Waste Characterization Study

Sustainability Lab, ENV 240, and Pathways of Pollution, ENV 398, classes will be dissecting the contents of a campus dumpster, recycling bins, and beach debris collected throughout the semester.  Americans notoriously throw away more than four pounds of trash daily.  UNE last conducted this study in 2016 and found that 38% of what was in the dumpster as actually recyclable.  Come learn about how much of what is thrown in our campus dumpsters is actually recyclable and how much contamination occurs in the residence hall recycling.  It is sure to be an eye opening experience.
