Roots of Renewal: A Film on Farming for a Hopeful Future
This powerful documentary chronicles the journey of environmental advocate Flo Reed as she travels across Central America to reveal the transformative power of small-scale farms. Along the way, she meets people who are feeding their communities and playing a critical role in healing the planet, following the principles of agroecology.
The film explores the interconnectedness of food, environment, and climate, while sharing the perspectives of thought-leaders like Bill McKibben, Vandana Shiva, Eric Toensmeier, Paul Luu, and Hans Herren. Ultimately, viewers learn how regenerative farming practices can play an important role in reversing environmental degradation and ensuring a sustainable future. The takeaway is that small-scale farmers, with the proper support, offer us tremendous hope for a resilient planet.
The event will begin with a screening of the 32-minute film, followed by a panel discussion involving producer David E. Shaw, and featured speaker Flo Reed. Director of the UNE Office of Innovation Lisa Herschbach will serve as moderator. The event will conclude with an audience Q&A session with the panelists.
