Local Rocky Intertidal Identification Guide

Leah Bymers

A fundamental part of the training of young marine scientists is the development of the ability to recognize and identify members of the marine animal and algae community. Being able to recognize an organism is important, but understanding how to use a field guide to identify an unknown is equally as valuable. As part of this activity, you will explore the local rocky intertidal ecosystem, take pictures of the organisms, write information about the ecology and behavior of the organisms and compile this together into a field guide. If you participate in carrying out this activity you will be proud of the document you helped create, and any student that uses the field guide in the future will benefit from its comprehensive and detailed information.
