Michael Campinell and Jenna Fucetola named UNE student trustees for 2009-'10
Michael Campinell '10, majoring in environmental science and political science, and Jenna Fucetola, a first-year nursing student, were recently selected as student trustees-elect at the University of New England. They will serve as student trustees for the 2009-2010 academic year.
Michael Campinell
Campinell, who will represent the Biddeford Campus, is a member of the undergraduate Class of 2010, Mike is double majoring in environmental science and political Science and is captain of the (very successful) Club Volleyball team.
Since his admission in the fall of 2006, Campinell has consistently sought and attained leadership positions on the Undergraduate Student Government including serving as representative on the Parking, Food Service, and Tobacco Committees, as well as on the Executive Council and the Representatives Council.
His experience on the Representatives Council has given him first-hand perspective of one of the primary roles of the Student Trustees who lead that group. In addition, he served as a Trailblazer Orientation leader and the USG representative to the Student Affairs Committee. Campinell received the Senator of the Year Award for 2007-2008. His stated goals as a student trustee include playing a larger role in representing the students of the University, and further advancing unification of students in our diverse colleges.
Jenna Fucetola
Fucetola, who will represent the Portland Campus, entered the nursing program this year, after having completed a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and health sciences from Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania in 2006. In the interim she worked in health care, confirming the validity of her career move toward nursing.
Her interest in philosophy grew from her natural talent for mediating and her belief in the importance of hearing “both sides of the story because without doing so there are no rational steps one can make to remedy the situation at hand.”
As a student trustee, Fucetola hopes to be a link between students and the Board of Trustees, to hear issues from both groups, and communicate ideas and concerns between them. Having had the full collegiate experience at Gettysburg, she is, perhaps, more clearly aware of the value of school pride, how it enhances the community and livens your academic mission. Another goal as a student trustee will be to promote that pride here at UNE.
Both Campinell and Fucetola are looking forward to their roles in representing students and strengthening connections across UNE’s four colleges, and participating in the planning and decision-making processes for the University.. They have clear goals for their work with the Board of Trustees in advancing the University’s mission.
Student Trustees
The intent of adding students to the Board of Trustees, starting ten years ago, was to provide enhanced student perspective to the Board and to facilitate interactions between and within each campus. In order to accomplish this goal, Campinell and Fucetola will receive training from the two current student trustees, Tyler Raymond (Biddeford Campus student trustee, second-year student in the College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Amanda Alboth, senior undergraduate OT student on the Portland Campus) for the remainder of the year to help smooth their progression into the role of student trustee.
