David Smith's 'Most Dangerous Animal' translated into Polish, basis of short film
David Livingstone Smith's 2007 book, The Most Dangerous Animal: Human Nature and the Origins of War, has been translated into Polish and is the basis for a short film being produced by filmmaker Al Sutton. The production, "The Most Dangerous Animal," began in 2010 when Sutton initiated an independent movement to "stop the killing." Sutton describes the project as part of a multi-media production consisting of live performance, film and music.
Smith's book, published originally by St. Martins, explores the evolutionary and psychological roots of war and genocide, with a view towards identifying what it is about human nature that makes it possible for us to treat our fellow human beings with such extraordinary brutality. Smith is associate professor in UNE's Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies.
