UNE announces new appointments to Board of Trustees

The University of New England has announced the names of seven new members elected to three-year-terms to its Board of Trustees, effective May 2011.

Newly-elected members of UNE's Board of Trustees are:

David L. Anderson, Ph.D., managing director, Supply Chain Ventures - a privately-owned venture capital and consulting company specializing in technology investing based in Biddeford.  The company's focus is on angel and early-stage investing in innovative marketing, medical and supply chain businesses.  In 2002, Dr. Anderson retired from his position as a managing partner of Accenture, a $20B global technology consulting company.  During his 10 years at Accenture (aka Andersen Consulting until 2001), Dr. Anderson was instrumental in building the company's $2 billion supply chain management practice in North America, Asia and Europe.  Before joining Accenture, Dr. Anderson was vice president in charge of logistics consulting at Temple, Barker & Sloane, Inc. and a vice president of Data Resources, Inc.   Dr. Anderson received his Ph.D. in econometrics and finance from Boston College and his B.A. in economics from the University of Connecticut.  Dr. Anderson is a resident of Biddeford, Maine.

Grover C. Gilmore, Ph.D. serves as dean of the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences and professor of psychology and social work at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.  Reflecting his interests in aging, developmental issues, and mental health, Gilmore serves on numerous boards, including the Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center; the Greater Cleveland Council, Boy Scouts of America; and Magnolia Clubhouse. He is also on the editorial board of Intelligence: A Multidisciplinary Journal. His current primary research interests are on the changes in visual perception that are associated with healthy aging and with Alzheimer's disease.  Dr. Gilmore received his Ph.D. and M.A. in psychology from John Hopkins University and his A.B. in psychology from Brandeis University.  Dr. Gilmore is a resident of Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

Joseph Kenneally, D.M.D. is a nationally recognized leader in the dental profession. He is past president of the Maine Dental Association, past vice president of the American Dental Association, and currently serves the International College of Dentists as an International Councilor and the USA Section as Regent.  He is the co-founder of the Dental Wellness Center of the Biddeford Free Clinic, where he still volunteers serving the uninsured and indigent.  Dr. Kenneally is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the National Academy of Dentistry.  He has served on several local boards including the YMCA, and two community groups that supported community water fluoridation.  He received his D.M.D. from Tufts University, and B.A. from University of New England.  Dr. Kenneally and his wife, Dr. Lisa Howard, have raised their four children in Kennebunk, Maine.

Patricia J. Phillips, DO, is a graduate of the UNE College of Osteopathic Medicine Class of 1985 and has been in practice in Yarmouth since 1987.  She began her current practice of family medicine and women's health, also in Yarmouth, in 2003 with fellow UNE alumna Elizabeth B. Pierce, DO '95.  Dr. Phillips is a member of the Alumni Association Board, serving as treasurer, and has co-chaired the fall reunion weekend.  She has also served on the Board of the Maine Osteopathic Association.  Dr. Phillips is a resident of Yarmouth, Maine.

Nancy St. John Pond has worked in education for over 25 years, teaching elementary school and serving as a public school principal for 10 years.  She attended St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia and graduated from University of Southern Maine.  Since 2007, she has served as a trustee of Spring Harbor Hospital and on the Advisory Board for Cheverus High School.  Nancy and her husband Kirk live in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

Richard M. Roderick, retired senior vice president and president of the Real Estate Division, Dead River Company.  Dead River's Properties Division develops, manages and owns a significant portfolio of commercial real estate along the U.S. east coast, and at one time had numerous industrial buildings developed for and leased to Federal Express.  He has served on the board of many organizations, including S Corporation Association of America, Maine Association of Nonprofits, Maine Life Care Retirement Community Inc., Cancer Community Center, Gorham Savings Bank, University of Maine Business and Engineering Colleges, Diocese of Portland, and United Way of Eastern Maine.  He received his M.B.A. from University of Maine, M.S. in computer systems from U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, and B.A. in accounting from University of Notre Dame.  He is a resident of Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

Barbara Ross-Lee, DO, FACOFP, vice president for Health Sciences and Medical Affairs at New York Institute of Technology and executive director of the Institute for National Health Policy and Leadership.  Dr. Ross-Lee is the first African-American woman to serve as dean of a U.S. medical school.  She is also the first osteopathic physician to participate in the Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellowship.  Dr. Ross-Lee has an extensive background in health policy issues, and serves as an advisor on primary care, medical education, minority health, women's health and rural health care issues on the federal and state levels.  She is a graduate of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and received her M.S. in Teaching Special Populations and B.S. in biology/chemistry from Wayne State University.  She is a resident of West Bloomfield, Michigan.
