David Smith publishes 2nd of his Psychology Today blog post series on the question of 'free will'
David Livingstone Smith, Ph.D., UNE associate professor of philosophy, who writes a blog for Psychology Today, posted the second column of a series on the question of "free will" on July 27, 2012.
Smith writes: "In the last posting, I pointed out that the free will problem is usually framed as the question of whether freedom is possible in a deterministic universe. One reply to this question (as we’ll see, it’s not the only one) is to say that if the universe is deterministic, then free will doesn’t exist. This view is known as incompatibilism." Read the blog.
Smith is the author of Less Than Human: Why We Demean, Enslave, and Exterminate Others, as well as Why We Lie: The Evolutionary Roots of Deception and the Unconscious Mind and The Most Dangerous Animal: Human Nature and the Origins of War.
