Jane Carreiro begins presidency of American Academy of Osteopathy
Jane E. Carreiro, DO, chair and associate professor of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and program director of Graduate Medical Education, College of Osteopathic Medicine, assumed the office of President of the American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO) at the President’s Banquet during the annual AAO Convocation in Louisville, Ky., March 24. She will serve a one-year term.
Carreiro is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Special Proficiency in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians. She specializes in neuromusculoskeletal medicine and pediatric musculoskeletal medicine. Carreiro was recognized as an expert in manual medicine by the World Health Organization’s Division of Traditional and Complementary Medicine in 2005.
Her research focuses include osteopathic manipulation in otitis media, lumbosacral pelvic anatomy, and innervation patterns in the lumbosacral pelvic area.
Carreiro’s publications include Sensory Stimulation – Guided Sacroiliac Joint Radiofrequency Neurotomy: Technique Based on Neuroanatomy of the Dorsal Sacral Plexus; The Use of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment as Adjuvant Therapy in Otitis Media, Guidelines for Training and Practice of Osteopathy and Osteopathic Medicine; An Osteopathic Approach to Children, which have been translated into German, French, and Italian; and Pediatric Manual Medicine, which has been translated into German.
