Jeff Nevers presents at Maine Human Resource Convention and receives awards for coordinating the Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers conference

Jeff Nevers, coordinator of Career Services on the Portland campus, presented “Maine’s Brain Drain: Why It matters to HR and what you can do about it” at the Maine Human Resources Convention held in May at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine.

His presentation focused on the intersection of higher education and workforce development. In it he outlined Maine’s demographic challenges, recommended methods for employers to connect with college graduates, and offered suggestions for how colleges and employers can work together in developing relationships.

Nevers also contributed significantly in coordinating the recent Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers (EACE) conference held in Portland June 4th through the 6th. He was the recipient of two awards for his efforts.  One was a Presidential Citation for promoting the conference by connecting with area organizations and securing press coverage from the Associated Press and the Maine Public Broadcasting Network, and another was a Presidential Citation for his role in conference committee planning in assisting with logistics and procuring keynote speakers.

The conference attracted over 325 career services professionals from institutions throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, with some hailing from as far away as the University of Kansas and Wake Forest University.
