Nananda Col speaks at FDA Meeting
On May 17, 2012, Nananda Col, MD, MPP, MPH, a professor of medicine in the University of New England’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, was invited to discuss prescriber-patient agreements in regards to opioid drugs by the FDA’s Drug Safety Oversight Board as part of their Safe Use Initiative.
Dr. Col, an expert in shared decision-making, presented a talk entitled, “Insights from Shared Decision Making to Improve Prescriber-patient Agreements from Opioid Drugs.” This discussion included topics such as patient and healthcare provider interactions and outcomes, provider use of tools and checklists to ensure patient understanding, patient health literacy and comprehension, and outcome measures for the above as well as an understanding of pitfalls and problems.
