Performance piece on Thoreau presented at UNE's Portland Art Gallery

The Art Gallery on the University of New England's Portland Campus will present "Thoreau the Futurist and the Emerging Human," a performance piece, on Friday, August 17, 2012, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Part of a series of events associated with the Governor Baxter Wilderness Legacy Golden Anniversary celebration in Portland on August 22, 2012, the performance of "Thoreau the Futurist and the Emerging Human" is set on the banks of the Allagash River after a long day's paddle.

The piece depicts Henry David Thoreau and his experience with the Wabanaki Indians.  It incorporates readings from Thoreau's Indian Notebooks and Journals.  The cast is comprised of Andrew Cameron Bailey (Thoreau) and James Neptune (Joseph Polis, Thoreau's Indian guide).  Connie Baxter Marlow, Governor Percival Baxter's great grand niece, will serve as commentator.

The UNE Art Gallery is located on UNE's Portland Campus at 716 Stevens Avenue, Portland, Maine 04103.  Art Gallery Hours are Wed - Sun 1 - 4 p.m. Thurs until 7 p.m. and by appointment.
