Research by grad student Erin Wilkinson highlighed in 'Outdoor Life'
Research by UNE graduate student Erin Wilkinson '12, marine sciences, was featured in Outdoor Life, a magazine about hunting, fishing, survival and camping.
The Aug. 10, 2012 article, “Striped Bass and Lobsters: New Research on Predator Impact,” discusses Wilkinson’s findings that areas in the Gulf of Maine with relatively large numbers of striped bass have relatively small numbers of lobster due, in part, to the fact that previously low numbers of striped bass may have given lobsters a false sense of security in the bass’ presence.
She found that lobsters do not display the sort of protective behaviors, such as hiding, in the presence of striped bass that they do when in the presence of other predators.
Wilkinson will defended her thesis. Read the article.
