Sun Journal interviews graduate public Health student Kristen Provencher about her UNE Ghana immersion experience
Graduate public health student Kristen Provencher '13, a Mountain Valley High School health teacher, was interviewed for a Sept. 10, 2012 Sun Journal (Lewiston) story about her trip to Ghana in August as part of UNE's second 2012 Ghana Cross-cultural Immersion in Healthcare Program.
Provencher was part of a team of 20 interprofessional students, faculty and health care providers who took a 10-day trip to Sekondi, Ghana. This UNE initiative, in its 6th year, offers two annual immersion experiences enabling students to work alongside the Ghana Health Service, Community Health Educators and the community. Participants engage in direct health services, interprofessional collaboration, community education, along with academic and cross-cultural exchange.
“We are so fortunate,” she said at a presentation on her trip to a group of students and staff at the high school. “I gained a new cultural perspective.” Read the entire story.
