UNE students help make city block party celebration even better
A neighborhood block party for residents of the City of Portland’s Parkside neighborhood was held on Saturday, July 27, 2013, and featured a health fair called, “Health On the Move” – a mobile health access project sponsored by Cumberland District Public Health Council.
UNE students in nursing, occupational therapy and pharmacy programs supported the event that included blood pressure screenings, diabetes risk assessments, nutrition education, physical activity/body weight screenings, eligibility/enrollment for free breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screenings, oral cancer and dental health screenings, depression screening. The event also offered new patient enrollment for primary care providers at Portland Community Health Center, and information for environmentally healthy homes.
The celebration also included face painting, children's games, information tables, food, good company, good cheer and a chance to meet Parkside neighbors in a pleasant setting. Portland's Parkside neighborhood is the most densely populated and most diverse single square mile of Maine.
