Julie Longua Peterson publishes research article in ‘Personal Relationships’

Julie Longua Peterson, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Psychology, recently published an article titled "Explicit thoughts of security activate implicit self-doubt in anxiously attached participants"  to appear inPersonal Relationships.

The results of the current research suggest that, among people with an anxious attachment style, security-enhancing thoughts automatically activate a negative association with the self that is not reflected in participants' more conscious responses.

This article is a part of Peterson's research program examining the role of the self in relationship functioning, and it highlights the importance of implicit (unconscious, automatic) processes in this endeavor.
