MPBN interviews Jeff Nevers on Maine’s expected shortage of nurses
On April 15, 2014, MPBN reported on a recent study on Maine’s health occupations that found that nursing is the largest health occupation in the state and will continue to grow, resulting in an expected shortage of nurses in the coming decades. Jeff Nevers, M.A., coordinator of Career Services, was interviewed as part of MPBN’s report and discussed the problem of out-of-state employers proactively recruiting new graduates from Maine nursing schools.
"There's a certain window where they are…sort of inclined to stay in Maine, and then as they get a little closer to graduation, that window starts to close," Nevers said. "It's a matter of timing. and that's what I see at the intersection of education and industry. Timing is the single biggest factor."
