Five members of UNE’s faculty and staff wrote a paper that has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Undergraduate Neuroscience Education (JUNE).
Alex Deal, behavioral neuroscience lab technician and Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences (CEN) K-12 outreach coordinator; Kristen Erickson, lab technician in the Burman lab and K-12 neuroscience outreach coordinator; Susan Hillman, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Education; Ed Bilsky, Ph.D., professor of pharmacology, vice president for Research and Scholarship and director of CEN; and Michael Burman, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Psychology and CEN, co-wrote "K-12 Neuroscience Education Outreach Program: Interactive Activities for Educating Students about Neuroscience.”
The article highlights the program’s innovative “Grow-up, Grow-out” curriculum and its successful outcomes. The program has reached almost 5,000 local students over the past two years and appears to be associated with enhanced satisfaction and retention of participating undergraduate students.
The article is part of an ongoing effort to make materials available to the widest possible audience, magnifying the impact of the program. It will appear in the fall issue of JUNE.
