Biddeford Campus' Bush Center and Ketchum Library renovations win American Institute of Architects award
On February 2, 2015, Foster's Daily Democrat featured an article announcing UNE's Bush Center and Ketchum Library on the Biddeford Campus as the recipient of a Merit Award from the American Institute of Architects New Hampshire Chapter (AIANH). The Merit Award was given as part of the AIANH's 2015 Annual Excellence in Architecture Design Awards.
The architectural company that designed the renovations and addition, JSA Inc., of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, was applauded for its design, which “provides an exciting, more visually accessible addition to the campus.”
According to the published jury comments, “The Bush Center received recognition for its sympathetic and contextual additions to the existing library, transforming an inward looking building into one that embraces views of the Saco River, landscape, and University Campus. The new gallery, cafe, and boardrooms also activate the potential utilization of the Ketchum Library. A worthy design solution honoring George and Barbara Bush.”
The Annual Excellence in Architecture Design Awards recognizes architecture that exemplifies excellence in overall design, including aesthetics, clarity, creativity, appropriate functionality, sustainability, building performance and appropriateness with regard to fulfilling the client's program.
