James Sulikowski quoted in Bangor Daily News article
James Sulikowski, Ph.D., UNE professor of Marine Science, is cited as an expert in a recent Bangor Daily News opinion piece addressing the warming climate’s effect on Gulf of Maine fisheries.
The author, Edward Reiner, discusses his personal experiences as a lobsterman and points to the rising number of dogfish in Maine waters, which he says are preying on cod, haddock and other fish.
The article quotes Sulikowski, stating: “There are an estimated 230,000 metric tons of spawning dogfish in the Gulf of Maine compared with only 10,000 metric tons of spawning cod. That’s a 23-to-1 ratio.”
