Jane O’Brien co-edits leading textbook in occupational therapy
Jane O’Brien, Ph.D., OTR/L, FAOTA, associate professor and director of Occupational Therapy (OT) Program, co-edited the seventh edition of Occupational Therapy for Children and Adolescents, which was published in October of 2015. This textbook is the leading occupational therapy textbook. O’Brien, for whom this is the second time serving as an editor of the textbook, co-edited with Jane Case-Smith, Ed.D., OTR/L, FAOTA, from the Ohio State University.
Many UNE photos and references are made throughout the text. Brittany Peters OT ’15 and Katherine Paulaski OT ‘14 contributed photos, as did faculty from the OT department. Kate Loukas, O.T.D., M.S., OTR/L, FAOTA, contributed two chapters, "Instrumental Activities of Daily Living, Driving, and Community Participation" and "Intervention for Children who are Blind or who have Visual Impairment."
O’Brien authored a chapter titled "Application of Motor Control/Motor Learning to Practice," and was also responsible for the Evolve Learning Materials for the textbook, including videotape case studies, multiple choice questions and additional resources to enhance student learning.
Case-Smith served as editor for five editions of the OT for Children textbook, which is used in 92 percent of occupational therapy programs in the United States. She made a significant impact on the occupational therapy profession prior to her passing July 2014. The book is dedicated to her.
