Janie McDaniel publishes study in 'Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants'
Janie McDaniel, M.S., M.L.S.(A.S.C.P.)S.C. (MMEL 2015) and her students at Wake Forest University recently published a study titled, “Promoting preconception health in primary care” in the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
The study by McDaniel, assistant professor Tanya Gregory, Ph.D. and students Laura Fuehrer, M.M.S., P.A.-C., Elizabeth Buckler, M.M.S., P.A.-C., Elizabeth Bowman, M.M.S., P.A.-C. focused on the importance of preconception care for all women of reproductive age. According to the study, primary care physician assistants can help women improve their health and pregnancy outcomes by treating every premenopausal woman as a potential mother.
“Women of all races and socioeconomic classes experience unintended pregnancies,” the study stated. “Preconception health promotion should therefore be integrated into every reproductive-age woman's primary care well visit, regardless of the woman's current reproductive plans.”
McDaniel is director of admissions and assistant professor in the Physician Assistant Master's program at Wake Forest University.
