Mark Nahorney assumes director of community relations position
Effective July 1, 2015, Dean of Students Mark Nahorney will officially transition from the Department of Student Affairs to Institutional Advancement, taking on the responsibilities of a new position: director of community relations.
As the University of New England continues to broaden its profile in the region and beyond, ongoing engagement with citizens in the communities where we live and work is increasingly important.
“While Institutional Advancement’s primary focus remains on the Moving Forward Campaign and achieving our fundraising goals, maintaining positive relations with community and civic leaders and organizations is essential to the University’s overall success,” states Vice President Bill Chance. “We’re thrilled to take advantage of the connections Mark already has, along with the skills and experience he will bring to sustaining and improving UNE’s community outreach.”
In addition to his work assisting the Mayor of Biddeford in identifying and presenting candidates for the UNE Student Volunteer of the Year Award, Nahorney serves on numerous civic and community organizations such as the Biddeford Saco Chamber of Commerce & Industry Board, the Biddeford Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee and the Mobilize Maine York County Steering Committee. He was previously involved with the Portland Area Comprehensive Transportation System Mass Transit Committee and the Envision Biddeford 2020 Mayor’s Committee. Currently, Nahorney is the president of the Biddeford City Theater Associates Board, and is the co-founder and co-chair of the Biddeford-Saco Arts and Culture Association.
According to Vice President of Student Affairs Cynthia Forrest, “Mark’s dedication to the entire UNE Community has been a hallmark of his leadership within Student Affairs. In his new role within Institutional Advancement, he will build upon his successes in expanding UNE’s connections with our local communities.”
As he prepares to embark on this new opportunity, Nahorney expressed that he is “delighted to continue to serve UNE in this new capacity and join the dynamic team at Institutional Advancement.” He extends sincere gratitude to past and present students, and his colleagues in Student Affairs for their years of friendship and support.
