Stephen Burt granted residency at the Dorland Mountain Arts Colony
Stephen Burt, B.F.A., M.F.A., chair and associate professor in the Department of Arts and Communications has been granted a 10-day July residency at the Dorland Mountain Arts Colony in Temecula, California.
Currently, Burt is developing drawing methods that express thought, form and feeling through calligraphic and expressive mark. During his residency, he will create a series of drawings inspired by the area's landscape, flora and fauna, while forming relationships with other artists in-residence. His goal is to create images that emphasize the process by which they are made, as much as the subject they represent.
The Dorland Mountain Arts Colony is a non-profit organization aiming to deepen the quality of the creative process, enabling its residents to explore their own creative resources without distraction. It is comprised of solitary cottages within the Dorland Preserve, a 300-acre wilderness area acquired by The Nature Conservancy.
