Susan Hillman invited to give Constitution Day presentation
Susan Hillman, Ph.D., professor and founding director of the Center for the Enrichment of Teaching and Learning was invited to speak at Southern Maine Community College about the U.S. Constitution.
The talk, titled “Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll,” focused on the influence of the Constitution on K-12 public education. Hillman provided a colorful tour of legal cases involving religion, free speech, academic freedom, search and seizure, and teachers’ constitutional privacy rights.
While pursuing her Ph.D. at Indiana University, Hillman also attended IU’s Law School acquiring a law minor upon graduation. School law has been an area in which Hillman has taught for 3 decades, culminating in an education law textbook coauthored with David Trevaskis, J.D. Hillman and Trevaskis teach a graduate course on the same subject for UNE students pursuing school administrator licensure.
