UNE Athletic Training program director shares expertise on ‘WCSH’
On November 4, 2015, Wayne Lamarre, ME.d., L.A.T., A.T.C, clinical professor and director of the Athletic Training program at the University of New England, was interviewed by WCSH about the crucial role Certified Athletic Trainers play in high school sports.
The story followed an article in USA Today about the importance of having A.T.C.s on the field during high school athletics, and the sometimes life-saving expertise they provide.
"The level of sport that's now being played -- there's a level of intensity in terms of speed and agility and strength that kids are now bringing to the playing field that just wasn't there, so there's a higher risk for more catastrophic injuries," Lamarre told WCSH. "There are so many more complexities now in terms of the kinds of other health issues that these kids are bringing to the playing field that certainly weren't happening 15 or 20 years ago."
