UNE Brain Fair featured on WMTW Channel 8
The University of New England Brain Fair was featured on a recent WMTW Channel 8 news broadcast. Held as part of UNE’s Brain Awareness Week, the Brain Fair took place Friday, March 27, 2015 at the Harold Alfond Forum on UNE’s Biddeford Campus.
The Brain Fair offered hands-on activities for community members of all ages such as arts and crafts, coloring, brain mazes, sheep brain dissections and microscope set-ups where participants could observe a variety of microscopic brain pictures.
As WMTW reported, the Brain Fair included a helmet fitting presentation sponsored by the Michael T. Goulet Foundation, a Maine-based nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing awareness, prevention and improved treatment for seizure disorders and brain injuries.
The report includes an interview with Ed Bilsky, Ph.D., UNE vice president for Research and Scholarship. Bilsky states, “We look at the human brain as the most incredible organ in the body… It really is worth protecting because sometimes when you sustain an injury the effects are irreversible and we always want to prevent, rather than treat.”
