UNE Dental Medicine students create and host Dentistry Merit Badge Day for Boy Scouts
Students and faculty from UNE’s College of Dental Medicine will volunteer their time and dental knowledge to local Boys Scouts for Dentistry Merit Badge Day, taking place at the Oral Health Center on Saturday, November 21, at 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
To meet the requirements for earning their Dentistry Merit Badges, scouts will have the opportunity to make model teeth out of soap, or other household materials, create posters about the importance of proper oral health care, describe the types of dental fillings and treatments for tooth decay, and more.
This community service initiative was facilitated through a course taught by Meghann Dombroski, D.M.D., M.P.H., assistant clinical professor in the College of Dental Medicine. Class of 2018 Dental Medicine students Benjamin Lacy, Peter Pelligrini, Alyssa Leibzeit, Wes Deibner, Mike Katz, Christine Roenitz and Lea Beaulieu created and organized the project.
These students will staff the event, under the guidance of Timothy Martinez, D.M.D., associate dean of Community Partnerships and Access to Care at UNE.
