UNE Interprofessional Educational Collaborative sponsors IPE immersion teams
UNE’s Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) sponsored six IPE immersion teams as a way to aid students in feeling better prepared to work in interprofessional teams and conduct difficult conversations with clients. Participants discussed the topic of Sexuality and Disability, with Nancy MacRae, M.S., OTR/L, FAOTA, associate professor of Occupational Therapy, presenting.
Each student team included representatives from Departments of Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant and Social Work.
Teams met three times to discuss possible questions and explore how each person would view specific roles and responsibilities. Students had two opportunities to interview a simulated couple representing a young woman with a spinal cord injury, and her husband. A wrap-up session focused on the strengths of the meetings and recommendations for future endeavors.
