UNE receives donation from Marine Anglers for Research and Conservation
On December 10, 2015, James Sulikowski, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Marine Sciences, accepted a donation of $10,000 from the Marine Anglers for Research and Conservation of Belgrade, Maine, bringing the total amount of money donated to UNE by the Marine Anglers to $17,500 over the past two years. The funds are used by UNE to support undergraduate research on conservation and management of local fish species.
The donation is just one of the monetary gifts bestowed by Marine Anglers to area organizations and institutions with funds generated at the annual Casco Bay Classic Sport Fishing Tournament. The annual Casco Bay Classic is a New England based Sportfishing Tournament whose mission is to help preserve marine life through research and responsible sportfishing techniques.
“It’s been a wonderful experience working with the Marine Anglers for Research and Conservation team,” said Sulikowski. “Their generosity has allowed UNE marine science students to remain on campus during the summer and conduct fisheries based research on issues and species that are part of our local ecosystem and community and of particular interest to our local sportfishing enthusiasts and fishing industry. This experience is something that will change the lives of those students and help them find employment or acceptance to graduate marine programs after graduation.”
