UNE Recognized by TIME for Providing Scholarships to All Incoming Freshmen
The University of New England was included in a list of 99 colleges that award scholarships to all incoming freshmen by MONEY.com, TIME’s online source for personal finance information. UNE also earned an appearance on the list for having higher-than-average graduation rates—an indicator of superior quality, according to the news outlet.
Full-time undergraduate students at UNE receive merit-awards up to $20,000. These scholarships are allocated based on academic achievement (SAT scores and high school GPA); students with stronger scores will receiver higher funding levels. Merit awards are renewed for up to eight semesters, provided that the student holds a 2.5 GPA or higher.
Need-based funds are also given at UNE based on income. Students who wish to receive need-based scholarships must file for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually to be considered. Both merit and need-based scholarships at UNE aim to create access for students, making a UNE education more affordable.
“UNE is proud to educate a student body comprised of bright, enthusiastic individuals, and we want to build on that each year,” said Paul Henderson, assistant vice president of Student Financial Services. “We understand how finances can influence a student’s ability to enroll; therefore, we are committed to working proactively with students so that a UNE education is within their reach. Our highly competitive merit and need-based funding programs are designed to make attending UNE possible for students with an intense desire to learn.”
