Christian Teter and pharmacy students speak at York High School
Christian Teter, Pharm.D., BCPP, associate professor of Psychopharmacology and Class of ’16 pharmacy students Chantelle Robinson and Nate Johnson gave a presentation to York High School students as part of Drug Abuse Awareness Week.
Their interactive, Q&A format talk focused on cannabinoids and their effects on the brain. Teter, Robinson and Johnson discussed the changes that can happen if you begin smoking at a young age, when brain is still developing and is especially vulnerable. They encouraged students to questions during the presentation, addressing myths and preconceptions.
Reflecting on the event, Robinson said “It’s clear to me that the students were very curious and interested to clarify everything they’ve heard about cannabis from friends, family and the media.”
Johnson added, “I was very impressed with how engaged the students were in our discussion. I definitely did not expect that level of participation.”
This presentation was arranged through Tidalwavse, the anti-drug program at York High School. Tidalwavse provides drug-free alternatives and events for high school students as well as education to reduce substance abuse.
