Dora Anne Mills quoted by 'Press Herald' as influenza expert
Dora Anne Mills, M.D., M.P.H., FAAP, vice president for Clinical Affairs and director of the Center for Health Innovation, was widely quoted as an influenza expert in a featured article in the Portland Press Herald in its January 7, 2016 issue.
With reduced numbers of people reported ill with influenza so far this year, Mills warned, “The only predictable thing about influenza is its unpredictability.”
She discussed how this year’s vaccine appears so far to be an excellent match with the circulating strains of the virus. She also discussed factors that affect the severity of seasonal influenza outbreaks, dispelling the myth that the severity of the outbreak is proportional to the severity of the weather.
While serving for nearly 15 years as Maine’s state health officer and for a year as the state epidemiologist, Mills oversaw the tracking and control measures of influenza throughout Maine as well as the distribution of vaccine.
