Dora Mills and UNE health professions students appear live on ‘WAGM’
Dora Anne Mills, M.D., M.P.H., FAAP, University of New England vice president for Clinical Affairs and director for the Center for Excellence in Health Innovation, appeared live on WAGM in Presque Isle to talk about rural medicine and interprofessional education.
The television appearance was part of a weeklong trip to Aroostook County for fifteen students from various health professions at UNE such as Osteopathic Medicine, Pharmacy and Dental Medicine. During the trip, students visited hospitals and clinics, met with community leaders and took part in clinical training exercises where they worked as a team. As Mills explained during the live interview, experiences like this are a core part of a UNE education in health care. “It’s sort of like with baseball,” she said. “You wouldn’t train the second baseman separately from the outfielders, but in health care that’s what we do. UNE is on the forefront of training and educating our students together.”
