Edward Bilsky, Ph.D., University of New England vice president of Research and Scholarship and professor of pharmacology, was interviewed by NECN about a study that suggests people who are addicted to opioids are turning to anti-diarrheal medications as an alternative.
According to the study, the main ingredient in these over-the-counter medications is safe in small doses, but Bilsky explained that when taken in large doses the drug can produce a euphoric high and have fatal consequences.
