Kenneth McCall appointed to MaineCare DUR Committee
Kenneth McCall, BSPharm, Pharm.D., associate professor for the Department of Pharmacy Practice, has been chosen to serve on a three-year term for the MaineCare Drug Utilization Review Committee.
Comprised of physicians and pharmacists, the committee serves in an advisory role to the Office of MaineCare Services. As part of the committee, McCall will work to ensure that covered drugs are appropriate, medically necessary and not likely to result in adverse medical events.
Among the issues that the committee focuses on is the utilization of drugs and education of providers and recipients to maximize the quality of care provided. Other responsibilites include submitting recommendations to MaineCare for policy changes and reviewing all data necessary to monitor and maintain the Department’s Preferred Drug List.
McCall was invited to serve on the committee by Dr. Chris Pezullo, chief health officer, and Stefanie Nadeau, director of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. Speaking about this new opportunity, McCall stated, “I Iook forward to serving Maine to maximize quality of care.”
