Olgun Guvench appointed as chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences
Olgun Guvench, M.D., Ph.D., has been promoted to the rank of associate professor in UNE’s College of Pharmacy and appointed as the chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
“Olgun’s leadership and previous professional experiences will certainly contribute to the continued success of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the College of Pharmacy,” said Gayle A. Brazeau, Ph.D., dean of the College of Pharmacy.
Guvench joined the College of Pharmacy as a founding faculty member in July 2009 where he most recently served as assistant professor and vice-chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Since 2011, he has also been a member of the graduate faculty in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Maine, Orono.
His honors and awards include the College of Pharmacy Teacher of the Year (2016 and 2012), National Science Foundation Career Award (2015-2020), and NIH Kirschstein-NRSA Postdoctoral Fellowship (2006-2009). He has contributed to 40 peer reviewed publications, book chapters and review articles.
Guvench earned his A.B from Harvard University in 1997, graduating magna cum laude. He received an M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2001 and a Ph.D. from The Scripps Research Institute Kellogg School of Science and Technology in 2005.
