Ten student groups from The University of New England’s Department of Occupational Therapy presented their research at the Maine Occupational Therapy Association’s annual conference.
The students’ presented on a wide variety of topics, covering subjects such as animal assisted therapy, employment opportunities for released prisoners, interventions for people with mild cognitive impairment, a community writing workshop for older adults, an analysis of “A Matter of Balance” fall prevention program, the “Scribes and Storytelling” program for people with Alzheimer’s Disease and their caregivers, the needs of homeless individuals in Portland and an exploration of occupational therapy in primary care. The students also unveiled a test they developed to measure visual perception related to driving.
The presentations demonstrated the community-based research being conducted by UNE’s O.T. students, helping them to not only learn about evidence-based practice but also to engage in it.
