UNE’s Jon Ryder recognized as international leader in service through dental medicine
Jon S. Ryder, D.D.S., M.S., dean of the University of New England College of Dental Medicine, was inducted as a Fellow of the International College of Dentists at its 87th Annual Convention in Denver, Colorado on October 21, 2016.
An honorary organization for the recognition of outstanding and meritorious service to the profession and community, the College presented Ryder with a membership plaque, a gold lapel pin and a gold key symbolic of the fellowship for conspicuous service rendered in the art and science of dentistry. In an impressive cap and gown ceremony, dentists from throughout the United States were inducted into the College, witnessed by hundreds of members and guests. The College, with representative chapters in more than 120 countries, has over 11,000 members, including 6,500 in the United States.
Since 2004, Ryder has organized and led dental humanitarian trips to Southeast Asia, where he has also regularly volunteered and lectured. He worked for many years, both individually and as part of a team, with dental schools in Cambodia on curriculum design and educational development. He has received awards for his work as an educator and advisor to the dental schools as well as the Cambodian Ministries of Health and Education.
