UNE’s Portland Campus Art Gallery presents “Wonder," an interdisciplinary exhibition
The University of New England’s Portland Campus Art Gallery will present “Wonder," an interdisciplinary exhibition from February 17 to March 13, 2016. An opening reception will be held at the Art Gallery on February 22, 5-7 p.m.
"Wonder" is a collaborative, interdisciplinary initiative exploring intersections among the visual arts, sciences and humanities.
During the 2015-2016 academic year, UNE Department of Creative and Fine Arts faculty partnered with faculty and students in non-art disciplines throughout UNE to develop works of painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, 3D printing, video, photography and mixed media installation. These works are featured in the "Wonder" exhibition.
Participating artists from the UNE Department of Creative and Fine Arts include Stephen Burt, Luc Demers, Sarah Gorham, Holly Haywood, Lisa Pixley, Alex Rheault, Oran Suta, Charles Thompson, Michael Vickery, Tom Whitehead and Reesa Wood.
Participating faculty and students from non-art disciplines include Matthew Anderson (English), Michael Arciero (Mathematics), Jessfor Baugh ’13, D.M.D. (’17), Riddhi Daftary D.M.D. (’17), Pamela Morgan (Environmental Science), Julie Peterson (Psychology), David Pier (College of Dental Medicine), Heidi Sistare (M.S.W. ’16), Michael Truscott (College of Dental Medicine) and Jennifer Tuttle (English).
"Wonder" is curated by Dorothy Royle through a Project Grant from the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
The opening reception will feature a musical performance by Tom Whitehead, adjunct faculty member in the Department of Creative and Fine Arts, and Mike Arciero, Ph.D., associate professor and chair in the Deaprtment of Mathematical Sciences, of the jazz/funk trio The Wurlibird.
The exhibition and opening receiption are free and open to the public. The UNE Art Gallery is located on the Portland Campus at 716 Stevens Avenue. Gallery hours are Wed, Fri, Sat and Sun 1-4 p.m., Thurs 1-7 p.m., and by appointment.
