Josh Pahigian’s latest book featured in ‘USA Today,’ ‘Forbes,’ ‘Inside SoCal’ and elsewhere
The University of New England’s Josh Pahigian, lent his perspective as a baseball travel expert to a USA Today article that explores ten of the major and minor league ballpark sites Pahigian profiles in his latest book, The Amazing Baseball Adventure (Globe Pequot Press/Lyons Press). The book is also featured in recent reviews and articles by Forbes.com, Inside SoCal, and the Albuquerque Journal.
Pahigian -- who is a fellow in the UNE Center for Global Humanities, adjunct instructor in the Department of English and writer in the Office of Communications – has been affiliated with UNE since 2004.
The Amazing Baseball Adventure was also recently featured on Forbes.com, where Pahigian contributed a short essay describing his vision for the book. The piece begins, “Whether it’s a balmy summer’s night or chilly April afternoon, there’s no place I’d rather be than sitting at a baseball park. Since my earliest memories, the communal experience of watching a game while partaking in the local fan traditions, ballpark rituals, and culinary delights has constituted a near-religious experience to me…”
In the Inside SoCal review, LA Daily News columnist Tom Hoffarth writes, “ It’s possible that no one has squeezed more fun and passion over the last two decades from
baseball-related cross-country trips than Pahigian… We’ve come to understand there may be nothing in which [he] can’t find some intrinsic beauty, particularly when it’s associated with a ballpark.”
The book was also reviewed by New Mexico’s largest daily, the Albuquerque Journal. The article notes that Pahigian includes two chapters in the book dedicated to the Albuquerque Isotopes’ home park: one focusing on the life-size Simpsons statues that adorn the concourses of this park where the home team derives its name from the popular animated TV series The Simpsons, and another to the 127-foot long, four-and-a-half-foot high grass embankment that appears on the field of play in the outfield.
Pahigian is also the subject of a new podcast released this week by Baseball by the Book.
