#OneTwoGiveBlue: UNE’s Giving Day makes a difference for students

Giving Day

On Tuesday, March 28, alumni, faculty, staff, parents, and friends of UNE, Westbrook College and St. Francis College will come together to unlock $10,000 for student opportunities.

The challenge for UNE’s second one day giving campaign is to have 500 individuals make a gift—a gift to any initiative in any amount—on March 28. If that challenge is met, two gifts will be unlocked: $5,000 to the Student Emergency Fund and $5,000 to the Danielle N. Ripich Endowed Scholarship Fund.

The Student Emergency Fund was created by retired Vice President of Student Affairs Barbara Hazard, HA’10, to serve as a bridge for students in an unexpected financial crisis. The Danielle N. Ripich Endowed Scholarship Fund will support an undergraduate student from Maine. In the final year of the UNE Moving Forward fundraising campaign, the focus has been on creating opportunity across UNE’s campuses to ensure that a UNE education is accessible for all UNE students.

Leading up to March 28, members of the UNE community have been encouraged to make a gift in honor of someone who was important to their UNE experience or challenge someone to join them in making a gift for #onetwogiveblue. Those unable to make a gift online on March 28 can use a special “Open Me on March 28” envelope to participate in the event. Pictures are tagged and shared on social media and through email to encourage participation. Alumni from the 1960’s to recent graduates have already said, “I’m in.”

“Last year was our first Giving Day and we were blown away by the response,” said Senior Director of Advancement Operations Amy Haile, reporting that last year’s donor goal was exceeded by 100%. “Having a one day campaign creates a lot of great energy in the office and across our campuses, and that enthusiasm spreads to our alumni. I love to see how much fun the faculty and staff have challenging each other and celebrating our students and alumni, and to see how college or graduate school experiences continue to make a difference in the lives of our alumni.”
