UNE Dental Hygiene students receive poster presentation award at Harvard Club reception
After winning the Hygiene Category of the Yankee Dental Congress Poster Session, Christen Cavanaugh and Tiana Thomas (Dental Hygiene, ’17) were honored at a reception hosted by the Massachusetts Dental Society. The event, which was held at the Harvard Club of Boston, took place on March 1.
Prior to the reception, the American Academy of Dental Science, oldest dental honorary in the United States, convened. Dinner and the awards presentation followed. The evening concluded with a presentation by Kenneth A. Malament, D.D.S., MScD, of Boston Prosthodontics. Malament discussed his current research of optimal dental restorative materials.
“It was a huge honor to be invited to this dinner and be surrounded by so many well-known, highly educated individuals with such a high level of interest in the field of dentistry,” said Thomas. “The evening was one I’ll never forget.”
“It was a great night for networking,” Cavanaugh noted, “and several dentists talked to us in regards to graduation and potential job offers.”
Cavanaugh added, “the guest lecturer emphasized how specialized dental practices need to work together more. We are fortunate to have interprofessional education at UNE, as this training as prepared us for team-based practice.”
