UNE medical student Sophia Chan wins first New England Osteopathic Heritage Center essay contest
Sophia Chan, D.P.T., a student in the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNE COM) Class of 2018, was the winner of the first Osteopathic Heritage Essay Contest.
The contest, held by UNE’s New England Osteopathic Heritage Center (NEOHC), invited students to write short essays explaining why they chose to pursue osteopathic medicine. In her essay, Chan detailed her path beginning with studying physical therapy and athletic training to acupuncture and Eastern medicine and finally to study osteopathy at UNE COM.
NEOHC is dedicated to preserving, promoting and providing access to the history of osteopathic medicine in New England. The center is an educational resource of archival material and museum displays offering dynamic programs. NEOHC programs aim to educate the public, and honor the osteopathic medical profession and the men and women who have served New England for more than 100 years.
