UNE Nutrition program highlighted in cooking segment on “207”

Anne-Marie Davee

Anne-Marie Davee, M.S., RDN, LD, program coordinator for the University of New England Westbrook College of Health Professions bachelor of science in Nutrition program, showed viewers a healthy approach to a summer barbecue in a cooking segment on WCSH’s “207.”

Davee began by explaining the basics of food safety, something that Nutrition students learn in one of their courses. She said it’s important to keep everything clean, separate meat from vegetables, use a meat thermometer to ensure foods are fully cooked and keep cold foods cold. She then explained how to properly portion your plate and offered healthier versions of traditional summer recipes such as pasta salad, pickles and burgers.

The UNE B.S. in Nutrition program focuses on practical skills that are in demand by employers, such as conducting nutrition assessments, wellness program planning, food policy, sports nutrition, health education and nutrition communications.
