UNE’s Anouar Majid meets French President Francois Hollande at event celebrating media leaders in Paris
University of New England Vice President for Global Affairs and Communications Anouar Majid, Ph.D., was invited to attend the decoration of four media leaders at the Élysée Palace in Paris, France.
President Hollande talked most eloquently about the need to support state-sponsored French channels, especially in an age when freedom of speech or facts cannot be taken for granted. The French president drew attention to the fact that France chose to enter an already crowded media market through its holding company France Médias Monde (overseeing the channels France 24, which broadcasts in several languages; Radio France Internationale, known as RFI; and Radio Monte Carlo Doualiya, which broadcasts its programs mostly in the Middle East.)
The event was attended by France’s former prime minister, Laurent Fabius, and the Minister of Culture, Audrey Azoulay, among others.
